Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) Programme

Course Offered: Two Years B. Ed. Course
Total Sanctioned Unit for the year 2021-23 : 02 (two) Units.
Annual Intake: 100 students

The Bachelor of Education programme, generally known as B.Ed., is a 2 (two) year professional course offered for those interested in pursuing career in teaching and prepares teachers for upper primary or middle level (classes VI-VIII), secondary (Classes IX-X) and senior secondary (ClassXI-XII) levels. The Bachelor of Education Programme aims at developing knowledge attitude and skills required by teachers for effective teaching-learning process at the school level. The programme provides knowledge and develops in them an understanding of areas such as educational evaluation, school management, technology etc. The B. Ed. Course is of two academic years. Only two units i.e. 100 students will be admitted in one academic year.

An Entrance Test will be conducted by Nagaland University on specified date every year. Only those who qualifies for the said entrance will be allotted seat for admission. However, 10% seat is reserved for those candidates who couldn’t qualify the entrance test and wants to take admission through the reserved quota.
1. Induction programme is held as per the academic calendar of the college.
2. The student teachers are compulsorily required to attend the classes on the opening day of
the college.
3. A student teacher must maintain minimum 80% of attendance. Students below 80% of
attendance will not be allowed to sit for the final examination.
4. Attendance and participation in all practical activities and workshops, assignments, club
activities is must, failing which the student will be debarred from continuing with the course.
5. Internal assessment of each course is based on attendance, participation in all
activities/workshop, club activities etc. unit test and assignments.
6. Smoking, consumption of alcohol and chewing of paan in and around the campus is strictly
prohibited. Non-adherence to it may amount to fine or expulsion or both.
7. All in-service teachers must free themselves from their teaching in order to concentrate fully
in completing the course. A certificate on behalf of the same may be produced.
8. All the students’ teachers are directed to maintain a proper dress code.
9. Fees once paid shall not be refundable.
Minimum of 20 weeks (4+16) shall be allocated over the two years for task, assignments and
school internship. School internship will be taken in four phases:
1. Pre-Internship (School Observation)
2. Internship
3. Post-Internship
4. Final Practice Teaching.

(Internship duration will be 10 weeks for 100 marks):
During internship a student-teacher shall work as a regular teacher and participate in all the school activities, scholastic, including planning, teaching and assessment, interacting with the school teachers, community members, parents and children.
Reflective journals and reports to be maintained during the internship period (A minimum of 50 classes)

It involves the following activities for a period of four (4) weeks in the first year (2 weeks in
the 1st Semester, 2 weeks in the 2nd Semester). All the pre-internship activities will cover 50
Marks.
 Observation of the real class room situation (Minimum of 2 Schools Private/Government,
Different Boards eg. NBSE/CBSE, Rural/ Urban) and the whole school environment. Before
teaching in the classroom, the student-teacher will observe a regular classroom in the school
for a week, to understand the school in totality, its philosophy and aims, organization and
management, need of children curriculum and its transaction, assessment of teaching and
learning.
 Peer group discussion
 Preparing a feedback and suggestion based on the observation of the real
 Classroom situation and the whole school environment.
 Sample demonstration/viewing different classroom situation.
 Input from teacher educators
 Context analysis and reflection (JNV, KV, Ekavya)
Post-internship duration will be of 4 weeks (one month) for 50 marks. It involves the following activities.
 Writing reflective journals or reports on the whole school internship programme of 20 weeks.
 Extended discussion among the student-teacher.
 Presentation by student-teacher on different aspects of the teaching experience after the internship.

During the internship programme, four classes will be observed by the concerned supervisor/ teacher educator for final evaluation and assessment (A total of 100 marks of EPC and 25 marks of internship will be externally evaluated)

A HUB AND REPOSITORY OF KNOWLEDGE

The library has over 6000 volumes of books, 100s of various educational journals, encyclopedias and reference materials in various discipline. The library has computers with internet facility for online access of unlimited e-books. The SOUL package along with INFLIBNET from UGC are installed to access, review and relocate the books. The library has a seating capacity of 30 learners.

The college facilitates a high quality and advance psychology laboratory for its students. The laboratory
is fully furnished with modern psychological tools to test the different abilities of students. This new age
laboratory gives opportunity to every students to experience every experiment individually. Along with
different psychological equipment’s like Memory Drum, Performance Test, Stop Watch etc. It also provides different psychological charts, pictures, models for the benefit of students. This laboratory will help in enveloping different abilities of the students. It will make the students mentally alert, develops their perception and reasoning ability. It will prepare the students for future challenge of life.
The college is equipped with well-furnished Hi-Tech equipment’s which will enable the teacher trainees to be familiar and skilled with new methods and techniques in the instructional process. The equipment’s being LCD Projectors, Computers, Slide Projector, Overhead Projector, Digital Recording, Radio, Charts, DVD players, Educational CDs etc.
There is a full-fledged ICT room with 30 numbers of computers. An ample opportunity is offered to the
teachers trainees to put on hands on training and to acquaint with fundamental knowledge on computer.
The teacher trainees are encourage to prepare Power Point presentation MS-Excel tasks, basic graphics etc.
A special body of knowledge – ‘Science’ is incomplete in itself with having practical knowledge. The class lectures are materialized into practice by performing different practical activities. To provide the theoretical teaching points of Science into practical purpose, the College is equipped with well-furnished practical laboratory. The college has all the necessary materials required for practical activities in Physics, Math, Chemistry, Biology and Geography.
Language laboratory is an audio-visual installation used in modern teaching methods to learn any languages. The language lab offers an exclusive result oriented and efficient way to enrich the English language learning process. The language lab is developed on the methodology of LSRW skills.

The purpose of a language lab is to involve students to actively participate in language learning exercises and get more practice than otherwise possible in a traditional classroom environment. Phonetic is a special feature of our Language Lab. The structure, phonetics, accents of the Foreign Language like English is necessary to work in such language Laboratory to be a professional teachers.

Art and Craft manipulates or stimulates critical thinking as it is incorporated in education. We do believe that life itself is an art. Here, teacher trainees are trained and encourage to come with creativity as they engage themselves in pot painting, embroidery work, sewing, clay model making, mask- making, collage, paper work etc. We believe that such skills can be imparted among the schools to enhance the creativity of the students as the teacher trainees here are well trained in this area.
The College has a teacher trainee Literary Club. Students are divided into four separate groups. Every year students publish their magazine and wall magazine as to enhance and display their literary skills.
It is a compulsory activity in which sports, literary, fine arts, music, dance, debating, recitation, essay competition, cooking, etc. are organized. This is a co-curricular programme, an important part of quality development among the teacher trainees. The student teachers through this programme finds scope and platform to manifest their talents and individual caliber.

prepare you for the challenges ahead in your life. For the first time ever in the entire country, we will be
offering a certificate course in conjunction with the B. Ed. Course i.e. “Teacher as a Counselor” in
collaboration with SCERT, Kohima Nagaland.
We also believe, that technology plays a vital role in the modern teaching learning process, hence
it cannot be overlooked. And for that reason, we will be providing a Basic Computer Application Course
(BCC) in collaboration with NIELIT, Kohima Nagaland, for free.
